Apply for access to meter data via third party devices
Uisce Éireann recognises the value of providing non domestic customers with access to water meter data to support sustainable water use, improve operational efficiency, and assist in monitoring consumption.
In certain circumstances, customers may apply to receive an electronic data feed from a Uisce Éireann water meter for connection to a third party data logger or Building Management System (BMS). This electronic feed typically provides pulse data representing water usage and can be used by customers for monitoring and analysis purposes.
To protect the integrity and performance of Uisce Éireann meters, and to ensure continued confidence in the accuracy of billing and consumption data, strict controls apply to all such requests. Customers must not connect any device to a Uisce Éireann water meter without prior written approval.
Important Notice
It is a criminal offence to interfere with a Uisce Éireann water meter. This includes the connection of any device to the meter or to any associated equipment without written permission from Uisce Éireann. Unauthorised interference may result in enforcement action.
Who this process applies to:
This application process applies to:
- Non domestic customers of Uisce Éireann
- Customers seeking access to meter data for connection to:
- Third party data loggers
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- All Uisce Éireann owned water meters and associated equipment
How the application process works:
To request access to an electronic meter data feed, customers must complete a Third Party Data Logger Application Form. Each application is assessed by Uisce Éireann to ensure that:
- The meter is technically suitable to provide an electronic feed
- The proposed connection will not impact meter performance or data accuracy
- Asset integrity, safety, and data security requirements are met
Approval is not automatic, and applications may require:
- Technical review of the meter type and installation
- Confirmation of customer and asset data
- A site visit, where necessary
- Use of approved installation methods and competent contractors
Only once written approval has been issued may any third party equipment be connected.
