Uisce Éireann crews have successfully completed critical overnight repairs, helping to safeguard drinking water supplies for more than 45,000 customers across Drogheda and surrounding communities.
These works involved repairing a damaged section of pipeline that required urgent intervention. Completing the works in a planned and controlled manner has significantly reduced the risk of a sudden burst and widespread disruption for local homes, businesses and community facilities.
The repair was completed at 2am this morning, Saturday, 12 September.
Speaking about the critical nature of the works, Regional Operational Manager, Stephen Burke Uisce Éireann, commented: "We are pleased to confirm that this important repair has been completed successfully. By addressing the damaged section of pipeline now, we have significantly reduced the risk of a major burst and helped protect water supplies for thousands of customers across Drogheda and the surrounding area. I would like to thank the community for its patience, understanding and cooperation while our crews carried out this overnight operation."
Water supplies are currently being restored across the network. As is typical following repairs of this nature, customers on higher ground or at the end of the network may experience lower water pressure or intermittent supply for a number of hours while the system fully recharges.
As supplies return to normal, customers may experience temporary discolouration. This can happen after repairs on the network and is usually resolved by running the cold kitchen tap for a few minutes until the water runs clear. For more information, please customers can visit: our Discoloured Water page.
