Supporting Skerries' future: major water and wastewater project completed

Uisce Éireann has completed a major water and wastewater upgrade in Skerries, helping to support new homes, local businesses and the continued growth of this vibrant coastal community.

This €2 million investment will help create capacity for up to 900 new housing units while improving the resilience of water and wastewater services that local homes, businesses and community facilities rely on every day.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD welcomed the completion of this vital work. 

“The completion of this project is very welcome news for the Skerries community. Improvements in the supply capacity of the water and wastewater networks will bring tangible benefits and provide the required infrastructure to service existing and new developments in the area, including much-needed new housing as reflected in our new Housing Action Plan, Delivering Homes, Building Communities.

“Continued investment in public water services is essential to facilitating housing delivery. That is why in the recent Budget we have increased Uisce Éireann’s funding by almost €500 million for 2026 - money that will accelerate the delivery of water infrastructure and support the development of new homes across the country.”

This investment will help support the town's continued growth while ensuring local homes and businesses can continue to rely on secure and dependable water and wastewater services. Together, these upgrades represent a significant investment in the future of Skerries, helping to unlock capacity for new homes while strengthening essential services for the local community."

Delivered as part of our national Growth and Development Programme, the project involved the upgrade of approximately 540 metres of water mains and more than 200 metres of gravity sewer infrastructure. The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Group.
