Works to repair a burst water main at Lurgan Park will begin this evening (Monday).
After consultation between Uisce Éireann, Galway City Council and An Garda Siochána, it has been agreed to carry out repair works on the burst main from 9pm this evening in order to ensure the safety of crews and the public.
High volumes of traffic are expected in the area today due to the Galway Races.
The burst main is affecting water supply for approximately 250 units in the Lurgan Park and Gleann Rua areas to the east of Galway City.
An Alternative Water Supply is being provided for affected customers. This will be in place from approximately 2pm this afternoon at Lurgan Park.
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
Leo O’Shea of Uisce Éireann said that crews are monitoring the situation and repair works will begin as soon as possible once traffic levels have subsided this evening. “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their patience,” said Leo.

Previous Updates
Uisce Éireann crews are working to repair a burst water main at Lurgan Park to the east of Galway City.
The unplanned burst is affecting water supply to approximately 250 units in the areas of Lurgan Park and Gleann Rua. Uisce Éireann customers in the area may experience intermittent outages or low water pressure this morning.
A specialist repair crew is currently on site and repairs are expected to be complete by approximately 4pm this afternoon.
Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
To ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the repairs to the burst and the safety of the public, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted.
Leo O’Shea of Uisce Éireann has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.
“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while our works continue,” said Leo.
