Supply returning to customers in South Donegal
The network continues to recharge, and it’s expected that supply will be restored this afternoon
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Water supply is returning to Uisce Éireann customers in Ballyshannon, Bundoran, and surrounding areas this afternoon. This follows the completion of repairs to a burst on the trunk distribution main at Lough Melvin Water Treatment Plant which had impacted supply this morning.
The network continues to recharge, and it’s expected that the majority of customers who experienced a disruption will have supply restored this afternoon. It can take 2-3 hours for the normal water supply to return as water refills the network, particularly for those properties on high ground or at the end of the network. Homes and businesses are being asked to be mindful of their water usage to allow supply to catch up with demand.
Damien O’Sullivan, Water Network Operations Manager, Uisce Éireann said: “We understand the inconvenience when a large burst of this nature occurs, and our crews worked as quickly as they could to remedy this unplanned outage. We thank the community for their understanding at this time.”

Previous Updates
Uisce Éireann crews are working to repair a significant burst to a water main supplying Bundoran, Ballyshannon, and surrounding areas this morning.
A burst on the trunk distribution main at Lough Melvin Water Treatment Plant is causing supply interruptions to customers in Bundoran, Ballyshannon and surrounding areas.
Crews are on site and repair works are underway. Repairs are due to be complete by 4pm this afternoon (Monday). Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.
Uisce Éireann’s Damien O’Sullivan assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply water as quickly as possible.
“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers impacted for their support while our repair works are ongoing. We expect that customers in Ballyshannon will have water restored by lunchtime today and for our customers in Bundoran it will be later this afternoon before full supply is restored.”
