Appeal to Leitrim customers to conserve water following leak repairs

Uisce Éireann is asking customers in County Leitrim to make a special effort to conserve water this week as crews work to repair a number of leaks in the county.

A large leak in the Cloone and Aghavas area affecting customers in Carrigallen, Newtown Gore, Corrawallen and surrounding areas, was repaired this morning. Further leak repairs are planned in Coralleehan and Bornacoola. These leaks are resulting in interruption to supply or reduced pressure particularly for customers on elevated sites.

Repairs are expected to be completed later this evening and tomorrow but Uisce Éireann’s Operations Manager Kevin Love explained it takes a number of hours for reservoirs to replenish and networks to refill following an outage and he appealed to customers to be mindful of their water usage. We are prioritising leak repairs for customers that are experiencing interruption to supply.

“Unfortunately, our crews are working on a number of leaks in County Leitrim today and I’m asking our customers to support them by conserving water and allow supply to catch up with demand.

“The leak in Cloone is repaired and water supply is returning there. Meanwhile the majority of customers in Corrawallen should have full supply restored this evening but a small number will experience a supply interruption until tomorrow morning.

“We also repaired a burst water main supplying customers in the Cornageeha and Killyvehy areas earlier this week and it’s important that all these supplies get time to replenish. I’m asking customers to be mindful of their usage because high usage can lead to pressure reductions which can impact the supply.”

Any reduction that customers can make in their usage can collectively result in significant supply improvements for all homes and businesses.
