Ballybeg set for a stronger water future with upgrades to the local water network

Every community depends on reliable water services to support homes, businesses and future growth. That's why Uisce Éireann is investing in Ballybeg's water network, replacing ageing water mains to provide a stronger, more resilient supply for the community for years to come.

Works will begin in October along Ballybeg Drive, from the roundabout to Ballybeg Stores, where approximately 1.1km of older water mains will be replaced with new, modern infrastructure. The upgrade will help reduce leaks and bursts, improve reliability for customers, and support the continued growth and development of Ballybeg.

The existing water mains have become more prone to bursts and leakage over time, leading to occasional interruptions to supply and the loss of treated drinking water. By replacing these ageing pipes now, Uisce Éireann is helping to protect a valuable resource while strengthening water services for local homes and businesses.

These works in Ballybeg will help reduce leaks, minimise future disruptions and provide a stronger water network for the community.”

The works will include the installation of new water service connections from the public water main to customers' property boundaries, linking homes and businesses to the upgraded network.

The project is being delivered by Shareridge Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Uisce Éireann understands that infrastructure works can cause some inconvenience and will work closely with the local community to minimise disruption while the upgrades are underway. This project forms part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme, which is helping to deliver more reliable water services and protect water resources across the country. National leakage levels have reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today, the lowest level ever recorded.
