With views of the iconic Slievenamon, the village of Ballypatrick and the surrounding areas are set for a boost to their water supply, as Uisce Éireann crews arrive this week to begin replacing ageing water mains and strengthening the local water network.
The works will take place from Ballypatrick village to the N24 Road in Ballydine and involve the replacement of over 5.6km of old and damaged water mains prone to bursts as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Dave Murphy said: “These works are a positive and much needed step forward. They aim to tackle some of the persistent supply issues experienced by customers in the area by replacing vulnerable sections of the network with new and more durable pipes.
“Uisce Éireann acknowledge the ongoing difficulties caused by water outages in this area and would like to apologise for any inconvenience experienced by the local community. This is the first major step in addressing the ongoing issues in the area and will play an important role in delivering clean, safe and reliable water to this part of south Tipperary.
“These improvements will bring real benefits, but challenges remain across the wider network in the area. This project forms a crucial part of a broader, long-term plan to improve the overall reliability and stability of the supply. Continued investment and further upgrades will be required to fully address the area’s infrastructure needs.
“The goal is a stronger and more resilient water supply for Ballypatrick and the surrounding areas. I would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and support as we carry out these essential works.”
The works will be carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed by autumn 2025.
Identifying and repairing these leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
