The community of Bunbrosna will reap the rewards of a more reliable water supply as Uisce Éireann is set to commence critical upgrade works in the area, replacing almost 1.8km of aged water mains with new pipes.

Uisce Éireann is committed to improving water services across the county, and this investment in Bunbrosna will result in a more secure and robust water supply for the local community.

The works will improve the reliability of the area’s water supply, reduce high levels of leakage while allowing for improved operational maintenance of the local network.

Speaking about the project, Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “We are happy to be commencing this project, which will ensure a more sustainable water supply for the community in Bunbrosna.

The replacement of these old, damaged pipes will have a positive impact on leakage by significantly lowering the instances of bursts and supply disruptions along the network, providing a more secure water supply for local homes and businesses for years to come.

“We would like to extend our thanks to the community in advance for their patience and support as we arrive to deliver this much needed project to future proof the water network.”
The project will take place along the N4 between Tormey’s Bar and Leny. The works will be carried out at night between 7pm and 7am to minimise impact to the community and commuters.

Traffic management will be needed to deliver this vital project, and Uisce Éireann are working in close collaboration with Westmeath County Council to deliver these works safely.

In addition, works are underway to replace over 2km of aged and vulnerable water mains in Knockdrin Estate and along the R394 at Ballynagall and Monilea. The works which began in mid-July have seen over 365m of water main replaced to date.

These projects will be delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme which continues to deliver significant benefits to communities across Ireland, including improved water quality, provision of a more resilient and sustainable water supply for customers, and considerable water savings.

Since 2018, Uisce Éireann has invested more than €500 million to upgrade the underground water network across the country through the delivery of the National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Uisce Éireann is investing a further €250 million every year up to the end of 2030 - fixing leaks and replacing pipes to provide a more reliable water supply. Uisce Éireann is on target to reduce the national rate of leakage to 25% by 2030, from 46% in 2018.
