Boost for Mallow as Uisce Éireann to commence water network upgrade works
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann will commence works to replace over one kilometre of water mains in Fair Street, Mallow, Co Cork next week. The new larger, modern pipes will address bursts and leakage and increase the supply capacity of the network, supporting future growth and development in the town known locally as ‘the crossroads of Munster’.
Jack Cronin, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, is looking forward to getting this important project underway for the community in Mallow.
“We are delighted to be starting this critical project which will deliver a more reliable water supply and a more resilient water network, providing additional capacity to support future development enabling the area to thrive."
“Replacing old watermains in a busy town like Mallow is not an easy task. It takes a lot of planning and liaising with local elected representatives, businesses and residents before boots are even on the ground. We are confident that the short-term inconvenience will be outweighed by the long-term benefits of this essential project.”
To safely and efficiently deliver this project, works will be carried out in two phases on L-1207 Fair Street, Mallow with some road closures required.
Phase 1:
- Night works will be required at the junction of Main Street with Fair Street for one week beginning Tuesday, 03 June.
- The first road closure will be in place from Monday, 09 June to Tuesday, 01 August. The road will be closed from 7am-7pm (Monday – Thursday), 7am - 6pm (Friday) and open at weekends.
Phase 2:
- A second road closure is planned from Monday, 14 July to Friday, 22 August. The road will be closed from 7am-7pm (Monday – Thursday), 7am - 6pm (Friday) and open at weekends.
To facilitate the safe delivery of these works, traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop / go system and traffic lights. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be completed in October 2025.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
