Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
While the scramble for All-Ireland Final tickets is underway around Tipperary, Uisce Éireann is making progress on vital upgrades to Carrick-on-Suir’s drinking water infrastructure, replacing aging pipes and tackling leakage to ensure a stronger, more reliable water supply for the local community.
The works, which are being carried out under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, involve the replacement of 1.7km of aging water mains, which have been prone to bursts and high levels of leakage, with new modern pipes.
520 metres of water mains have been replaced so far.
These upgrades will significantly reduce water loss, improve pressure, and enhance the overall resilience of the water network, serving homes and businesses in the area.
Uisce Éireann has completed all connections on Castle Lane and Callanan Lane, and are currently carrying out works on New Street, where night works will take place until Friday, 25 July.
Speaking about the works, Dave Murphy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “We are committed to delivering a more secure and reliable water supply to communities across Ireland. These works in Carrick-on-Suir are part of that effort, ensuring fewer disruptions, improved water quality, and a network that’s fit for the future.
“We’re delighted with the progress made on this project and would like to thank the people of Carrick-on-Suir for their continued patience and support as these essential works continue.”
The works are being carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Since 2018, Uisce Éireann has invested more than €500 million to upgrade the underground water network across the country through the delivery of the national Leakage Reduction Programme.
Uisce Éireann is investing a further €250 million every year up to the end of 2030 – fixing leaks and replacing pipes to provide a more reliable water supply. Uisce Éireann is on target to reduce the national rate of leakage to 25% by 2030, from a high point of 46% in 2018.
