Crews complete Water Main Upgrades boosting Supply for Cullen and Dromcummer
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
The local communities of Dromcummer and Cullen can look forward to a more reliable water supply following the completion of over 5.1 kilometres of aged watermains that were prone to bursts and leakage along the N72, County Cork as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme.
This work will also help secure the local water supply and reduce high levels of leakage in the area.
Marking the end of this project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Jack Cronin commented on the benefits: “The importance of these works cannot be understated and form part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to upgrade infrastructure and provide an improved water supply to enable local communities to thrive for years to come. The replacement of these old, damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts, outages and leakage on the network ensuring a stronger and more resilient supply for the area. We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience as we carried out these essential works.”
Following the completion of the works, it is necessary to reinstate the permanent road surface, and these works will be programmed and carried out in due course by Uisce Éireann in partnership with Cork County Council. The works were carried out by Ward and Burke on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Identifying and repairing leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve its 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The national Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
