Crews return to Doonbeg to deliver a more resilient water supply to the local community

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann crews are returning to Doonbeg for the second time in a year to continue vital upgrades to the local water network. These latest works will replace ageing watermains, and strengthen the community’s water system, delivering a more dependable supply for homes and businesses.

Beginning next week, our crews will replace 4.1km of old water mains which have caused disruptive outages for locals and complicated repair works for our operations teams. As part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, we want to tackle this issue for the community, providing them with a water supply they can rely on for decades to come.

Jack Cronin, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, is eager to get to work in the area again and deliver these upgrades remarking,
“Last year we completed a much-needed project in Doonbeg, replacing over 4km of water mains. This year, we are coming back again to tackle another 4.1km. As the community may be aware these old water mains are in poor condition and replacing them will improve service and ensure a more sustainable water supply by eliminating existing leaks, and significantly reducing the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.”’

“We would like to thank the community for their patience as we carry out these upgrades. This work is essential to preventing future issues and reinforcing the water supply for the long term”

To protect the safety of the community and our crews, while also delivering the project on time, traffic management will be in place.  Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to complete in April 2026.
