Alternative water supply will be available adjacent to the church in Dromina from 11am on Wednesday, 21 May
Uisce Éireann is appealing to customers in Freemount and Dromina to conserve water as essential overnight restrictions are being introduced to maintain reservoir levels.
The restrictions are being put in place tonight (May 20) in Freemount and Dromina from 10pm until 6am to ensure a continuous daytime supply of water is available for homes and businesses in the area.
Uisce Éireann’s, Michael Bell said the restrictions will be timed to ensure minimal disruption to customers.
“We are mindful of the impact that these nighttime restrictions can have, but they are essential to safeguard continuous daytime supply,” said Michael Bell, Water Network Operations Manager.
A water tanker will be put in place adjacent to the church in Dromina from 11am on Wednesday, 21 May. Customers are reminded to bring their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per HSE advice.
“We are asking customers to be mindful of how they use water. Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to six litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.
“We are also encouraging people with responsibility for properties that are currently unoccupied to check for leaks and turn off water where it is not required,” Michael said.
Customers are also urged to report visible leaks to assist Uisce Éireann with its investigation.
