Further Growth and Development unlocked for Cork City South Quays
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann will commence works next week to upgrade the water infrastructure along Albert Road. These works are an extension of the Cork City South Quays project.
Nearly 700m of decades-old cast iron water mains will be decommissioned and new larger, modern pipes will be installed along Albert Road. This project will not only unlock growth and development for the Docklands Housing but will also improve water quality in the area.
Brian McCarthy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, marks the commencement of these works, saying:
“In a concerted effort to support the growth and development ambitions of this country, Uisce Éireann continues to invest in strengthening the water supply network in Cork City. This project on Albert Road, along with the upgrade works completed on the South Quays earlier this year, will provide additional capacity to support future residential and commercial development in the Docklands area - enabling the city to thrive. As we continue to address water quality and discolouration reports, we are keen to also see the water quality benefits this project will bring as well.”
To facilitate the safe and efficient delivery of these works, traffic management will be in place in the form of a flagmen system, a road closure and nighttime works. Nighttime works will begin on 29 September along Monahan Road/Victoria Road, operating Monday to Friday from 7pm to 7am each week. A road closure will be in effect along Albert Road from 06 October to 24 October, Monday to Friday. Emergency access will be maintained at all time and signposted diversion route will be in place.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be completed in December 2025.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
Details of any supply interruptions associated to this project will be updated regularly on the Water Supply Updates section of our website.
