Lismore wastewater network has completed key investment works
Uisce Éireann is pleased to announce the successful completion of critical upgrade works to the wastewater network in Lismore. Delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s Wastewater Below Ground Programme, the project will provide a more reliable wastewater service and significantly reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the area.
The project began earlier this year with extensive upgrades to the existing underground infrastructure, including the construction of a new surface water outfall pipe. These improvements were designed to alleviate sewage spillages during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly along the N72 and at a problematic manhole on the St. Declan’s Walkway route. Works were carried out along the N72 from the St. Declan’s Walkway to the Aglish (Lady Louisa Walk) entrance, with additional upgrade works opposite the Lismore House Hotel, in the Lismore Gardens carpark, and at the Ferry Lane Junction.
Following the identification of areas requiring further upgrades, a second phase commenced and concluded at the end of September, which included the installation of 205 metres of new storm sewer, the replacement of two manholes, and the connection of several storm gulleys into the new storm sewer.
Commenting on the completion of works, Paul Harney, Senior Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: “This key project will help support Lismore’s future development. It will benefit the environment and deliver a reliable, sustainable, high-quality service to the people of Lismore and those visiting the town. We would like to thank the community for their cooperation and patience while we completed these necessary upgrades.”
The works were delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Shareridge.

Previous Updates
Uisce Éireann is continuing its work to upgrade the wastewater network in Lismore. Recent works have identified additional areas of the wastewater network that require further attention. To address these, a follow-on phase of work will begin this week and continue until the end of September.
As part of these works, several storm gulleys will be connected into the new storm sewer, two manholes will be replaced, and approximately 205 metres of new storm sewer will be installed.
The works will take place from the entrance of the hotel carpark down to the water fountain feature.
David Shalloo, Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann said: “These additional works are a necessary step in strengthening the wastewater network in Lismore and ensuring its long-term reliability. We’re committed to delivering these upgrades as efficiently as possible while minimising disruption for the local community. We appreciate everyone’s continued patience and cooperation as we carry out this important phase of work.”
To facilitate the safe and efficient delivery of these works, traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop/go system, and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Upon completion, Waterford County Council will carry out reinstatement works on the affected section of the N72 road.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Shareridge.
