A major water supply upgrade commences in Drumconrath

Uisce Éireann is commencing a project to deliver a significant upgrade to Drumconrath water supply.

The upgrades will involve the inclusion of a new raw water source for the plant at a groundwater well site located in Posseckstown, and the development of a new water main to take raw water from the new source to the upgraded water treatment plant.

The existing treatment facilities will also be upgraded at the treatment plant, which supplies over 1,200 customers. This multi-million Euro investment will improve the resilience of the water supply for homes and businesses in Drumconrath and surrounding areas.

Speaking about the project, John McElwaine, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said:
This major upgrade to the Drumconrath Water Treatment Plant is a crucial investment in the future of the community. By securing a new groundwater source and enhancing the treatment facilities, we are ensuring a safe, secure, and resilient water supply for homes and businesses in Drumconrath and surrounding areas. This project not only supports compliance with drinking water standards but also lays the foundation for social and economic growth.”

Site investigation works along the route of the planned pipeline are scheduled to commence in the area from next week. Survey works will be undertaken at Cregg Road, Summerhill Road, Druminshin Road and the access road to Lough Bracken.

To ensure the safety of the public and workers, temporary traffic management measures will be in place throughout the duration of the works.

Following completion of site investigation works, main construction works will commence on site. Uisce Éireann is committed to keeping all stakeholders informed on the progress of this vital project.

Coffey Construction is carrying out the project works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, which are expected to be completed in late 2026.

The current water scheme is included on the Environmental Protection Agency's Remedial Action List (RAL), which identifies water supplies that need improvement.
