Overnight water restrictions necessary for Cavan Town
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann is appealing to customers in Cavan Town and surrounding areas to conserve water with nighttime restrictions being introduced to help maintain a daytime supply.
From tonight (Thursday), restrictions will be introduced on the Cavan Public Water Supply from 10.30pm each night to 7am the following morning. These will affect customers in Cavan Town and surrounding areas. However, normal supply will be maintained to the local hospital.
Uisce Éireann’s Peter Gallagher explained that low rainfall levels and a recent significant leak coupled with an increase in demand for water has put pressure on the supply.
“I am appealing to all our customers in Cavan Town and surrounding areas to make a special effort to conserve water. I’m asking them to consider their water usage and reflect on the daily and easy actions they can take to play their part in ensuring our water resources are used wisely and in a way which benefits not only your own household but also the wider community.
“We understand the impact of overnight restrictions, but these measures are necessary to ensure continuous daytime supply for homes and businesses while we allow the reservoir levels time to recover,” added Peter.
Simple actions, such as taking a shorter shower, placing a basin in the sink and fixing leaking taps can all make a significant impact. Uisce Éireann has developed an easy-to-use conservation calculator to help people find out how much water they are saving and what they can do to save even more.
