Site investigations begin for wastewater network upgrade in Tullamore

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is commencing site investigations this week as part of a significant wastewater network upgrade in Tullamore town to support future growth and development in the area.

These investigations will inform and support the development of designs for the planned wastewater infrastructure upgrade in the area.

Survey works will take place at various locations across the town, both north and south of the Grand Canal, including Convent View, Thornsbury Estate, Callery Street, Connolly Park, Convent Road, Patrick Street and Main Street.

To ensure the safety of the public and workers, temporary traffic management measures will be in place throughout the duration of the surveys. These will be implemented in the form of Stop/Go systems and are designed to facilitate the safe and efficient delivery of the investigations. Local and business access will be maintained at all times.

Speaking about the project, Ciaran Ryan, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: “Site investigations are a vital part of progressing Uisce Éireann projects, helping us deliver the most effective design and construction outcomes. These works will provide critical data to inform the feasibility and impact of the proposed wastewater infrastructure upgrade.

“We understand that areas of this wastewater network are challenged and are committed to providing solutions while also unlocking growth opportunities in this thriving Midlands town.

“We realise that traffic management measures may cause some disruption, and we sincerely thank the community for their patience and cooperation. We’ve worked closely with Offaly County Council and our delivery partners to ensure these works are carried out as efficiently as possible, with every effort made to minimise inconvenience.”

Coffey Construction are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann. It is expected that the site investigation works will take approximately nine weeks to complete.

Once the design phase is complete, Uisce Éireann will progress the necessary statutory, regulatory, and budgetary approvals required to deliver the new infrastructure.

Uisce Éireann remains committed to delivering infrastructure that meets the needs of growing communities while protecting the environment and ensuring long-term resilience.
