The people of Milltown St John and the surrounding areas can look forward to a more secure and reliable water supply following the completion of works to replace almost 8km of aged water mains as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

The works, which took place between the junction of R689 at Milltown St John and Outrath, will have many benefits such as providing a reliable water supply while also reducing bursts and outages for customers and local businesses in the area.

In addition to this 8km upgrade, Uisce Éireann has also installed almost 2.3km of water mains between Coolbawn Cross and Kilbreedy and are set to install an additional 3.2km between Kilbreedy and Killenaule, with works set to begin this week.

Marking the end of this phase of the project and the commencement of the next, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Dave Murphy said: “The importance of these works cannot be understated and form part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to upgrade infrastructure and provide an improved water supply to enable local communities in Tipperary to thrive for years to come.

“The replacement of these old pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts, outages and leakage on the network, ensuring a stronger and more resilient supply for the area.  We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience as we carry out these essential works.”

The works are being carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Permanent reinstatement of the road surface will be programmed and carried out in due course by Uisce Éireann in partnership with Tipperary County Council.
