Uisce Éireann advises of water supply disruption in North Kildare due to reservoir issue
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann is advising customers supplied by the Allenwood Reservoir in Kildare that technical issues at the reservoir will impact water supplies to local customers from later tonight.
Crews are on site working to resolve the issue as a matter of urgency. However, it is expected that customers in the impacted areas will experience loss of supply from approximately 9pm this evening due to low reservoir levels. It may take up to 24 hours for normal supply to return to all areas.
Areas impacted will include Coill Dubh, Prosperous, Derrinturn, Kilmeage, Robertstown, Allenwood and surrounding areas.
While repairs are being carried out, alternative water supplies in the form of tankers will be made available at the following locations from 7am tomorrow (Sunday):
- Prosperous National School, Curryhill, Naas
- Aylmere Court, Kilmeage (near the Old Dispensary)
- R403 Allenwood (parking bays adjacent to 120 / 120X Bus Stop
- Former Grand Canal Hotel, Robertstown (large gravelled area to the east of the hotel)
- St Conleth’s National School, Derrinturn
- The Village Arch Café, Coill Dubh (close to the archway)
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
Uisce Éireann’s Eoghan Forristal has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.
“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while our works continue. It will take some time for reservoir levels to recover once repairs are completed but we expect that normal supply will be returning to all customers from approximately 9pm on Sunday.”
The majority of customers should have adequate storage in their attic tanks to provide for essential uses such as flushing toilets for the duration of this restriction. However, customers can help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and postponing using dishwashers and washing machines where possible.
Typically, it takes two to three hours for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
