Uisce Éireann tees up a more reliable water supply for Adare

As Adare prepares to welcome more than 250,000 visitors to its village during the Ryder Cup next year, Uisce Éireann is laying down the groundwork to support them, creating a more reliable water supply by reducing leakage and strengthening the service in the village. 

Renowned for its rich heritage, strong sense of community and hospitality, Adare is one of Ireland's best-known destinations. While global attention will turn to the village next year, this investment is about ensuring the homes, businesses and community facilities that rely on their water supply every day continue to be supported long into the future.

The project will see almost 5km of new water mains installed in the Knockanes area, helping to reduce leakage and improve the reliability of the local water supply.

Alongside these works, Uisce Éireann is progressing the separate Adare Water Supply Rationalisation Project. Together, these investments are helping build a stronger and more reliable water supply for the community, supporting Adare's future for years to come.

Welcoming the project, Brian McCarthy of Uisce Éireann said the upgrades will help strengthen the water network that supports homes, businesses and community life in Adare.

"As Adare prepares to welcome visitors from around the world next year, it's important that the essential services people rely on every day continue to perform at their best. These upgrades will reduce leakage, strengthen the local water supply and deliver lasting benefits for the homes, businesses and community that make Adare such a vibrant place to live and visit.

“We also want to thank them for their patience and support as we carry out these essential investment works.”

Works commenced this week and will include installing new water service connections from the public water main on the road to customers’ property boundaries and linking them to the customers’ water supply.

The project is being delivered by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann with completion expected in early 2027. 

We have measures in place to keep disruption to an absolute minimum; however, to protect the public and our crews, a traffic management system will be in place during the works. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained. Traffic management will be in place in the form of a road closure and a stop / go system. This road closure will be in place along the L-1420 from 21 September until 30 October 2026.

This project is one example of how Uisce Éireann works every day to reduce leaks. National leakage is now at its lowest level ever, reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
