Residents of Celbridge, Co Kildare will soon benefit from a more secure and reliable water supply with Uisce Éireann set to begin works next week to reduce high levels of leakage in the area.
The works will take place in four stages and involve the replacement of over five kilometres of aged water mains between Celbridge, Co Kildare and Newcastle, Co Dublin as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Nicola Butler, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, is looking forward to getting this important project underway.
“We are delighted to be getting these vital works underway. Replacing these ageing water mains will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages, ensuring that residents and businesses enjoy a more reliable supply of water. We would like to thank the local community in advance for their support and patience as we carry out these essential works”
The first section of works will begin at the roundabout on R405 Hazelhatch Road and move north towards Celbridge. This is expected to take three months to complete.
To safely and efficiently deliver this section of works, traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop/go system. Road closures are anticipated next year for the following stages of the project, and these will be communicated in advance.
GMC Utilities Group Ltd. is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the project expected to be complete in Q2 2027.
This project is being delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which continues to deliver significant benefits to communities across Ireland, including improved water quality, provision of a more resilient and sustainable water supply for customers, and considerable water savings.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
