Growth and Development Programme - Crodaun Wastewater Network Upgrade
Uisce Éireann is installing new wastewater infrastructure in Celbridge to support future growth and development in the area.
The works involve the installation of over 2.1km of sewer pipeline to cater for the future growth and development of the Celbridge area. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme and commenced in January 2026.
The section of works is taking place between the existing Castletown Wastewater Pumping Station and Crodaun Forest Park, via Castletown Estate, Castletown Drive and the R405 Maynooth Road.
This project is being delivered to support existing and future developments within the community. It will improve the capacity of the existing wastewater network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network.
The works are being delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Coffey and are expected to be completed in 2027.

Plans for Sections 4 and 5
Section 4 (R405 Aghards Road to Stream Crossing) is the next phase of works and is scheduled to begin in mid-June 2026. To facilitate these works, Kildare County Council has issued a Notice of Intention for intermittent temporary closures on the R405 Maynooth Road (from Aghards Road junction to the Crodaun Forest Park south entrance) between Monday, 22 June to Friday, 25 September 2026.
*Important clarification on the Section 4 closure notice*:
- This is not a continuous full road closure for three months. Closures will be intermittent only (max 1 - 3 days each) during this three-month period. The current plan is to complete these works with two block closures (3 day and 2 day). To minimise disruption where a closure is in place for 3 days it will be implemented over a weekend (3 days Friday - Sunday, 24/7). If a one- or two-day closure is in place it will be planned to accommodate peak traffic.
- Traffic will use a stop/go lane closure system, keeping one lane open at all times outside of the intermittent closure periods mentioned above.
- Specific closure dates will be notified in advance via signage, through a communications update and on our website a week before the closure is implemented.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times, with one footpath remaining open where works are taking place.
- Alternative diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
Section 5 (Stream Crossing) works were initially planned for September. This is now re-sequenced to commence late June following stakeholder engagement and requests to complete works during the summer period. This will be completed under a lane closure (outside of the intermittent full closures) and the Maynooth Road / Crodaun Forest Park junction will be controlled / monitored by flagmen. Uisce Éireann also wishes to clarify that there will be no temporary bridge constructed in the Crodaun Forest Park area and that access to the estate will be maintained throughout the works.
