Growth and Development Programme – Fair Street Water Network Upgrade
Uisce Éireann is upgrading the water infrastructure at Fair Street, Mallow to support future growth and development in the area.
The works involve the installation of over 1km of watermains to combat bursts and cater for the future growth and development of the wider Mallow area. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme and are expected to commence in early June 2025.
The section of works will take place at L-1207 Fair Street, Mallow.
This project is being delivered to support existing and future developments within the community. It will improve the supply capacity of the existing water network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke and are expected to be completed by late October 2025.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of these water network works include:
- Supporting social and economic development – This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including planned residential development.
- Improving the water network – This project will upgrade the water network, increasing the capacity to deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality water services
- Providing a more resilient water supply – This project will improve the resilience of the water network, increasing connectivity to enable re-routing of water supply as required.
Will customers be affected by the works?
Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise the impact on customers. To safely and efficiently deliver the project, traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop / go system and traffic lights. Two phases of road closures will also be required on L-1207 Fair Street. Signposted diversions will be in place. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
Night works will also be required at the junction of Main Street with Fair Street for one week. The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions. We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
