Growth and Development Programme - Maynooth Transfer Pipeline Project
Uisce Éireann is delivering a project to upgrade the wastewater network to enable growth and development in Maynooth and Kilcock.
The Maynooth Transfer Pipeline Project involves the construction of a pipeline between the existing Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station and Leixlip Wastewater Treatment Plant. Upgrade works are also required to the Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station.
This project is being delivered to support existing and future developments within the community. Construction of the new pipeline along with the required upgrade works to the Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station will improve the capacity of the existing wastewater network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network.
Delivered through Uisce Éireann's national Growth and Development Programme, the project represents a €24 million investment, and will provide the required wastewater network capacity to enable the development of an additional 11,500 housing units in Maynooth and Kilcock.
The works are being carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Coffey Construction and are expected to be completed in 2027.
What is involved in this project?
Construction of 9 kilometres of new sewer pipeline from Maynooth Wastewater Pump Station at Dunboyne Road, to Confey in Leixlip.

Project Benefits
The benefits of these wastewater network works include:
- Supporting social and economic development – This project will facilitate social and economic growth, including planned residential development.
Improving the wastewater network – This project will upgrade the wastewater network, increasing the capacity to deliver reliable, sustainable high-quality wastewater services for the community.

Diversion Routes
For general traffic on the L1015:
- Westbound traffic:
The closure begins at the L1015 / R149 junction. Traffic will divert left onto the R149 (Captain’s Hill) and continue to Leixlip Main Street. From there, follow Main Street to the L1014, then turn right and continue until you rejoin the L1015 beyond the closure. - Eastbound traffic:
The closure begins at the L1015 / L1014 junction at Kellystown. Traffic will divert onto the L1014, then turn left onto the R148. Continue on the R148 to the R149 (Captain’s Hill), turn left, and follow this route to rejoin the L1015 beyond the closure.
For HGVs:
- HGVs travelling east:
HGVs will be diverted via the R157, following the signed route through Castlefarm, Summerhill and Bennetstown roundabouts. Traffic will then continue via the M3 junctions, R147 and R156 before joining the R149 (Clonee Road), which will bring drivers to the end of the road closure. - HGVs travelling west:
Westbound HGVs will follow the R149 before diverting onto the R156 and onwards to the R147 and R157. The diversion continues via Bennetstown, Summerhill and Castlefarm roundabouts, before rejoining the route beyond the closure
All diversion routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the Council and An Garda Síochána. Emergency access and restricted local access will be maintained at all times.
