Roundstone Sewerage Scheme
Wastewater Project
Working to eliminate the discharge of raw sewage in Roundstone Bay.
Uisce Éireann is committed to delivering new wastewater treatment infrastructure for the village of Roundstone. This project will stop the discharge of the equivalent of 645 wheelie bins of untreated wastewater being discharged directly into Roundstone Bay each day.
The existing wastewater network was originally constructed using clay pipes in the 1920s. Wastewater from the village is currently collected in existing sewer system and is discharged with no treatment in three separate locations into Roundstone Bay.
News and updates
- There have been significant delays on the project incurred due to legal challenges on the Roundstone Sewerage Scheme Compulsory Purchase Order (2019). As a result, Uisce Éireann is now considering an alternative site for the new WWTP. The site selection process is currently underway.
- Uisce Éireann will host a briefing session to provide local representatives, stakeholders and members of the public to seek feedback on the site selection process.
