Duleek to benefit as works continue to tackle leakage and improve water supply
At Uisce Éireann, we’re committed to providing a reliable water supply for everyone in the community. To help make that happen, we’re continuing with works to replace old and damaged water mains in Duleek.
From Staleen to Duleek Business Park, our crews are installing almost 3km of new, modern pipes that will strengthen the local network and reduce disruption to homes and businesses.
The existing pipes were prone to bursts and leaks, leading to supply interruptions and the loss of treated drinking water, a valuable resource we all depend on.
Speaking about the project, Declan Healy of Uisce Éireann said that these upgrades will help stop leakage and give the community in Duleek and surrounding areas greater confidence in their water supply for years to come.
“Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, home and throughout the community. By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Duleek and surrounding areas, now and for generations to come.”
Works are being carried out in phases, and several phases have already been successfully completed. We have measures in place to keep disruption to an absolute minimum but to protect the public and our crews, a temporary road closure will be required on the L-1609-9 Cannanstown, Station Road, Duleek, between its junction with the L-5612-10 Cruicerath and its junction with the R-150 Station Road, from Monday, 14 September until 23 October. Local and emergency services access will be maintained at all times.
The project is being delivered by GMC Utilities on behalf of Uisce Éireann with completion expected in early 2027.

This project is one example of how Uisce Éireann works every day to reduce leaks. With more than 65,000 km of underground pipes nationally- enough to circle the earth one and a half times - fixing leaks can be complicated. Many are hidden, but we are making progress: National leakage is now at its lowest level ever, reduced from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
