Water supply returning to customers in Cork City

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Water supply is returning following the successful completion of repair works to a significant burst watermain in Cork City by Uisce Éireann crews.

Following investigative works this morning, crews isolated the burst, allowing supply to be restored to a number of customers. Repair works were then completed shortly after 2pm, and water should return to all remaining customers over the course of this afternoon.

It typically takes three to four hours for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those at the end of the network or on higher ground.

James Goulding, Operations Manager for Uisce Éireann in Cork City said: “We would like to thank customers for their patience, supply should be restored to all customers this afternoon.”

Following any significant activity on the water network, we usually see increased instances of sediment becoming dislodged from the old cast iron pipes, resulting in increased reports of discoloured water at customers taps.

As water returns, customers may experience some short-term discolouration. In the event of discolouration, running the cold kitchen tap for several minutes will usually restore the water to a clear colour. For more information visit our Issues during or after an outage page.
